What questions you would ask about future?

We all live in a world created for human benefits by humans, a planned world that designs us as much as we design it.

What is the way of life I would live in? Is the question I would ask 

And would wish for the answer that I'm living a sustainable life.              

What is Sustainability? 

The ability to maintain our own needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs . So, ask the question are we going to live a sustainable life? 

There are lots of things happening in the world right now like high  temperature extremes and heavy precipitation events are increasing, glaciers and snow cover are shrinking and sea ice is retreating. Seas are warming, rising, and becoming more acidic and flooding is become more frequent. After all this happening around do you think that there will be enough resources for the future generations?       

 

You must have read all these quotes, can you guess where?  Probably on "Environment day "on your insta feed or watsapp status

            

What is the sustainable way of living? 

sustainable design is one of the way for a sustainable living . It seeks to reduce negative impacts on environment,and the health and comfort of building occupants,which improves building performance .  The main objectives of sustainability are to reduce consumption of non-renewable resources,minimize waste, and create healthy,productive environment. 

Did you ever think that the design of the every day products, services and systems that creates our societies are often the cause of environmental issues we face today? 

Globally, we are threatened not only by the pressing impacts of climate change, but also by the degradation of resources, the destruction of habitats, the decline of biodiversity, the eradication of species, water availability, air pollution, the bioaccumulation of food chain contaminants and monoculture in our ecosystems.

What do we do now? 

Look around you, the phone you are looking into, the pen you are using, the chair you are sitting on .Someone, somewhere has thought about it some one has taken the materials from nature,designed it knowing  it has value now and some day it's discarded, even though it's fundamentally unsustainable. 

Ask questions when you buy a product , What is the products lifecycle? what will you do with it when the product completely serves its purpose? will you reuse it? will you recycle it? what will you do with the product so that it does not become a part of landfill what will you do so that it doesn't become a part of carbon emissions, it doesn't pollute sea, do not lead to the destruction of habitat . 

Ask questions because as said earlier "There are years that ask questions and years that answer".

Views on sustainability 

When a chapter about sustainability was taught in my college, I thought wow,it is so cool , eco friendly and energy efficient but I wondered why nobody was practicing them. I feel there is lack of awareness among the clients and designers as well and a lot to learn.

Awareness about the necessity of using sustainable methods should be made and it is the responsibility of the designers, architects who are part of the field .We cannot deny the existence of the problem but accept it. 

It is not possible for everyone to take out time and study these and thus we as designers should take the responsibility and spread awareness and educate our clients, students and the coming generation.

Like space planning and functionality of a site or space ,sustainability is also the most important aspect that should be applied from the beginning of the design process.

Interior design has a lot of responsibilities  in terms of sustainability because materials are also a part of global emission and so we should make responsible material choices.

A multidisciplinary design group will help build a more sustainable future and also educate their colleagues.

You can start sustainability without experience by starting to educate oneself with information. It is the right time to start as everyone is being cautious about their surroundings due to the pandemic. Marketing is also an important aspect, that will help to have an impact among people.
